Yannis Hallecker

photo of Yannis HalleckerBorn in Athens. He studied piano with a G. Averof and G. Bachauer scholarship at the Athens Conservatory with Zoi Agelastou and at the Orfion Conservatory of Athens with the Austrian pianist Max Hallecker. In 1990 at his diploma examinations the jury of graders comprising the distinguished professor piano soloists: Maria Herogiorgou, Zoi Agelastou and Aris Garoufalis unanimously deemed him worthy of the highest marks with a gold medal which he was awarded at a special ceremony by the minister of culture, Mrs. Psarouda-Benaki.

He actively attended master classes with famous piano soloists: Hans Graf, Alexander Jenner, Christopher Elton, Dubravka Jovicic, Alberto Portugheis, Nikolai Petrov. He collaborated with the Union of Greek Musicians and has interpreted first performances of their work. He has recorded music for the Greek, Cypriot and Yugoslav radio. His recitals have been broadcast by the National Greek Television (ERT) where he was a guest on such programmes as: Klassika kai Alla, Syneikones, Vitreux. He holds piano soloist diplomas from the Royal College of Music of London (ARCM), from the Guildhall School of London (LGSM) and a diploma in composition.

In 1997, he took first place in the qualifying examinations for the soloist department of the University of Arts in Belgrade. Following a two-year course of study he earned the degree of Master of Music in Piano Performance with top marks. In recognition of his contribution to their goals through his piano recitals, the Rotarians of Greece awarded him an honorary plaque. He has given recitals in Greece, Cyprus, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria.

As a soloist he has performed in 1998 with the Symphonic Orchestra of Pasartzik, in 1999 with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sofia (with which he also recorded a CD), in 2001 with the State Orchestra of Athens. He has collaborated with the conductors Viron Fidetzis and Emil Tabakov. He was the only Greek pianist with whom Warner Music Greece in 1997 and 1999 issued two CDs with classical repertory works for solo piano. While pursuing his artistic activities he has also been active in a rich teaching career. Since 1989 he is a professor of piano and advanced theory in major Athens conservatories.

Students of his won the first prize at piano competitions at the national level in 1994, 1998. They also won third prize in 1998 and second prize in 1999 at the international competition Konzerteum. At the Pan-Hellenic Student Music Competition 2000 which was organised by the Ministry of Education and Religion, three students of his earned the first prize for Attiki prefecture as well as first, second and third prize at the national level.
